This year Japan rules the beauty game: the title of Miss Universe was won by a girl from the Land of the Rising Sun. Riyo Mori was born in the town of Shizuoka and devoted all her life to ballet. She became the 56th to win the Miss Universe title.
The crown was created by Japanese designer Kokichi Mikimoto. It is estimated at €250,000. The crown carries 800 diamonds, 18 carats each, and 120 South Sea and Akoya pearls from 3 to 18 mm. It is shaped as phoenix plumage and is a symbol of high status, power and beauty.
- Riyo, tell us what it feels like being a Miss Universe?
- By all means, I’m happy. I’m very lucky because winning this title is nothing short of a miracle. I’ve been dreaming about it all my life. It’s my second victory in life after becoming Miss Japan. My mother always said that women don’t have to choose between family life and career. I want to prove to all the women of the world that they are capable of doing both things.
- Tell us more about the Miss Universe crown.
- I have to wear it everywhere. I like it a lot, but it’s so heavy that I sometimes have to balance it with my hands.
- What are you going to do when the year comes to an end? Will you return to professional dancing career?
- What I really want is to open my own international dancing school. I’ve been a dancer for 18 years, all my life I’ve studied ballet. I think I’ll be able to organize a high school, provide universal communication and make it cosmopolitan.
