The new 52-metre sloop Red Dragon by Alloy Yachts New Zealand was launched in mid-December, 2007.
The construction began in Auckland in March 2006. The yacht was contracted by famous yachtsman Guy Ullens and his wife Myriam. Red Dragon is the 4th similarly sized yacht built by Alloy Yachts. She has a beam of 10.2 m, a drift of 4.9 m and a displacement of 354 tons.
Immediately after the launching Guy Ullens expressed delight at his new yacht. "Alloy Yachts has a culture of excellence in everything they do, which is world class," he said. "The yard is producing exceptional pieces. Red Dragon is a work of art."
The yacht’s aluminium exterior was designed by Dubois Naval Architects. Besides being a quintessential luxury product, the yacht has excellent technical features and is able to stay at sea for long periods without assistance, carrying all the life and travel necessities on board.
Wilmotte & Associates, who designed the interior, tried to make the lounge extremely spacious with a dining area for up to 10 guests. The style includes a light contemporary timber interior. The hull is finished in anthracite grey with a white superstructure.
