It's a hybrid of a sport car and a light airplane, able to take off from a free stretch of highway or from an airfield. The "autoplane" will work on high-octane petrol, not on aviation kerosene, so there won't be any problem with finding fuel, not even in Russian towns. As to the machine's size, all we know at this stage is the wingspan - 8.1 m. Transition's flight speed is 208 kmph, range is 800 km and payload is about 200 kg.
Transition's folding wings fold and unfold automatically, just by pressing a button.
The company is planning to make between 50 and 200 machines a year.
Another asset of the new invention is its small size: the owner will be able to keep their "autoplane" in a regular-sized garage. Terrafugia's CEO Carl Dietrich is sure that now is just the time to launch the new machine: it will become a turning point in the history of light aviation and automobile industry alike.
