The founder of Perini Navi shipyard Fabio Perini has been awarded for his achievements in the yachting industry.
In 1983, 3 years after the foundation of the company, their first sailing yacht, the 40-metre-long Felicita, was launched. She was the biggest yacht ever at the time. Today yachts by Perini Navi are quite imposing: 56, 64 and 74 metres. As for the latest project of the company, Maltese Falcon, she’s 88 metres long.
The design and construction of Maltese Falcon had been carried out together with designers from Ken Freivokh Design, a British design studio, and Gerard Dijkstra & Partners from Holland.
3 adjustable masts for this sailing yacht were made of carbon fiber at Yildiz Gemi shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey, by Insensys, a British company. The masts are up to 58.2 metres high.
The rigging was made by Gerard Dijkstra & Partners using the DynaRig system. Each mast carries 5 separating square sails supplied by Doyle Sails. The DynaRig system had been developed in Germany in the 1960’s.
At the moment Perini Navi fleet includes 38 sailing yachts. 7 boats are being constructed.
