The light jet Phenom 300 by Embraer made its maiden flight a few months ahead of the schedule. The flight lasted 1 hour 22 minutes.
During the first flight the pilots tested the jet's flying characteristics and operation of the systems; the subsequent flights should provide the information about the aircraft's efficiency and aerodynamic configuration. The first three Phenom 300s should fly about 1,400 hours altogether to obtain certification and prepare the jet for commercial exploitation in the second half of the next year. Further flight testing will include checking functionality and reliability, ground vibration, flying characteristics, flutter, water spray impact and centralised refuelling. The fourth jet will be used at the final stages of the programme to prepare the new model for commercial exploitation.
The single-pilot Phenom 300 (the price is $6.65 million) can carry up to 8 passengers at the maximum altitude of 13.8 km and top speed of 0.78 Mach. With 6 passengers onboard the jet can cover 3,330 km. It has two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535Es engines with 1,450 kg thrust, and comes with Garmin G1000 avionics.
