A new Volvo Open 70 yacht for the Team Russia was launched at the British Green Marine shipyard on the Limington river.
"We started building her in August last year", said Team Russia's CEO Michael Woods. "It's been a fantastic team effort, from the design by Rob Humphreys to completed vessel. It took about 34,000 man hours to build the yacht, under the expert management and commitment shown by Tim Dean our project manager. It 's also would be hard to overestimate the contribution by Simon Smith who supervised the work at Green Marine, and the hard work by all the shipyard's team".
Team Russia's yacht will have to cover 37,000 nautical miles taking part in the prestigious round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race which starts in Alicante (Spain) in October, 2008. There will be 11 port calls in 10 countries, finishing in St. Petersburg (Russia) in June, 2009.
