The Italian company AugustaWestland, a maker of AW-101С helicopters, is very likely to sign a contract for supply of 12 aircraft in VIP version for the Indian government. The plan is to use the helicopters to carry the country's president, the prime minister and the other top government officials.
At this stage the estimated value of the contract is about €400 million but it's expected to go up to €600 million, because India wants to have the additional equipment and systems installed at the machines. After flight testing conducted by the Indian Air Force, the AW-101 was recommended as the aircraft with the high level of safety and more spacious and comfortable cabin. The same type of helicopter won the tender to develop the next-generation VH-71 rotary-wing machine for the US president.
AW-101 fully meets all the requirements and was recommended for transporting VIP passengers.
