The British McLaren team pilot Lewis Hamilton came first at this season’s 1st Formula 1 race – the Australian Grand Prix.
Hamilton who remained a candidate for leadership up to the last minute last year confirmed that his success in 2007 was not accidental and that his intentions this season are very serious.
Starting from pole the Brit didn’t let anyone doubt his excellence during the entire race which had many accidents and dislodgements. Besides Hamilton, Nick Heidfeld for BMW Zauber and Nico Rosberg for Williams scored the podium.
Only 7 bolides made it to the finish; last season’s winners Kimi Raikkonen managed to get one point only after the disqualification of Rubens Barrichello who drove under red lights. The former Hamilton’s team partner Fernando Alonso who came back to Renault finished 4th while Heikki Kovalainen who left Renault and joined McLaren came with a 5th result.
