Moscow confirmed for Russian Grand Prix

The International Offshore Team Association (IOTA) has announced an eighth race for the 2008 season, confirming that the City of Moscow will host the Russian Grand Prix, round three of this year’s Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.

The news of the first Class 1 Grand Prix to be held in the country’s capital City, also marks the return to racing of the World’s leading powerboat series in Russian waters for the first time in nine years.

"This is a significant event for the championship and we are delighted to have reached this agreement with Mr Anton Dolotin, President of Moscow’s Royal Yacht Club and to be allowed to run our race inside Russia’s capital City, the largest City in Europe", said IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala. "We also expect this five-year agreement with the City of Moscow to increase the level of activities surrounding the sport in general, and hope that these will culminate in the creation of a Russian Class 1 Team".

The staging of Moscow’s historic first Class 1 Powerboat Grand Prix on Sunday, 6 July will take place on the Khimki Reservoir, one of three artificial lakes forming part of the Moscow Canal system which was built in 1937, linking the Moscow and Volga Rivers, but the only lake that lies within Moscow’s city limits.
