CUBA, THE ISLAND OF FREEDOM, HAS ALWAYS BEEN FAVOURED BY RUSSIANS. IT’S A CRAZY COCKTAIL OF FIERY LATIN RHYTHMS, CIGAR AROMAS, EXOTIC CARIBBEAN CUISINE AND EVERFRIENDLY CHEERFUL LOCALS. AND NOW YOU CAN BREATHE THE AIR OF AUTHENTIC OLD HAVANA IN THE NAMESAKE MOSCOW RESTAURANT.
THE SPACE AT OLD HAVANA is divided in two zones: bar and restaurant. The interior was designed by a Cuban Alberto Antonio Sanchez Lago, who created a unique atmosphere in the spirit of old colonial Havana, using a favourite Cuban palette.
The renowned Frank Sarria Sarria is responsible for the magnificent Caribbean cuisine. His gastronomic masterpieces include chef’s salad (a pyramid of chopped lobster, scallops, tiger prawns and shell-on mussels in white wine), "Puerto Rico" (chopped pork marinated in orange juice and cooked in white wine), and "Caribbean" (salmon and Caribbean seafood bisque with spices and white wine). At Old Havana one can savour unique Cuban coctails: "Hemingway Special" (rum, cherry liqueur, grapefruit and lemon juice), "Crazy Mojito" (rum, champagne, mint leaves, lemon juice), and "Beautiful Cuba" (rum, mint liqueur, grenadine).
Naturally, every Cuban restaurant must have a torcedor. This position is proudly occupied by Carlos Valdez Mosquera, who has been working as a cigar roller since 1953. Cigar rolling is both his work and hobby. For a torcedor cigars are a way of life and a passion that he will never betray. That’s why restaurant guests have a unique opportunity to enjoy authentic Cuban cigars rolled on the spot by a renowned Cuban torcedor using the best Cuban tobacco brands.
But the main attraction for the guests of Old Havana is a splendid show. "Explode Brasil", among other things, features a performance of capoeiristas. Capoeira is a dance and a martial art in one. According to its most populized background story, it was created by enslaved Africans brought to Brazil. A martial dance with the most similarities to capoeira that still exists in Western Africa and is used by the Brazilian capoeira masters is Maculele’. This dance is performed with a pair of long machete (faca~o) or long arm-length sticks (basta~o). The dancers rhythmically strike the partner’s sticks or knives, alternating the strikes with dancing steps.
Enchanting samba girls are honey to every man’s eyes. Latin dance is full of fire and truly unforgettable.
