The second championship Halls Breez WakeWorld Russia Cup was even more grandiose, impressive and spectacular than the first one. The cup was won by Din Lavelle from Florida and went to America again.
Among the famous riders arrived to the yacht club Shore House for the tour were the wild cards owners Anton Katorgin and Nikita Martyanov from Russia, Din Lavelle and Ricky Gonzalez from America, and Lota from Thailand. Other participants competed with each other for the cup final. Zhenya "Bambini" Savchenko, Gosha Khudnitskiy, Alexander Suchkov from Russia and Dmitry Massalov from Ukraine reached the final after qualification.
Tom Ellis from Great Britain was invited as the chief referee, that’s why the rating was made according to the international system. The motor boat Centurion was the official towing vessel of the festival. The premium class model Enzo SV240 was brought especially for this event from the USA. The wave after this model is considered to be the biggest in the wakeboarding and wake surf industry.
As last year the final was very spectacular. The stars showed the great skills and demonstrated complicated tricks in spite of risk falling down. At the end everybody fell down except Din Lavelle. He performed tricks with easy and consummate skill and it could be appreciated even by people who have nothing to do with wakeboarding. At that day Lavelle was head and shoulders above his competitors. At the end of his performance Din showed his special trick Slurpy and left his main competitor Lota - the champion of Asian X-Games - far behind on points.
Halls Breez WakeWorld Russia Cup was not only a striking competition between the best riders of the world but also a social event: on one of the best beaches of Moscow there was a beach party to the music of the best Moscow disc jockeys. The sun, swimming pools, bars with cocktails – such a fun is typical for this sport.
The prize money of 10 000 dollars was distributed the following way: Din Lavelle (1st place) – $3000, Lota (2nd place) – $2 500, Nikita Martyanov (3rd place) – $2 000, Anton Katorgin (4th place) – $1 500, Ricky G (5th place) – $1 000.
Comparing the first and the second championships we should mention the growing skills of the Russian riders. For example, last year Nikita Martyanov demonstrated his programme better that the current champion Din Lavelle (by the way, having 4 championship titles).
Din Lavelle shared his impression right after he had won the cup. He said, "Everything was excellent this year! The guys from WakeWorld Russia hold a real fete for all of us. I am sure to come next year. I have no doubts that more and more well-known personalities will come for this event and it will become even more interesting".
