
Yachting is naturally associated with active lifestyle. But this is true only for sailing yachts. Motor yachting requires less energy, that’s why it’s very important to keep fit in the long journey. A gym can be of help.
Yachts from 30 metres have enough space onboard to refit one of the cabins into a gym, if it hadn’t been taken care of at the design stage. The same can be said about megayachts: after buying a brokerage yacht the new owner usually wants to change the interior layout. Any yacht has some reserve tonnage and can easily carry additional load of several hundred kilos.
Modern multifunctional weight machines doesn’t need much space. To install the equipment the area from 5 m² will do. These are minimum technical requirements for the future gym. Besides weight machines it’s nice to install some cardio equipment: treadmill, stepper or bike. If the yacht’s size doesn’t allow using a separate room for the gym you can do with a minimal set for a cardio workout: mat, fitball, weights, step platform, balance platform.
To install the weight machines you absolutely have to make a permanent floor mount to fix the equipment in case of intense tossing. Usually cardio machines need electricity, but there are also nonvolatile machines that do not overload the yacht’s power supply system.
As for the companies manufacturers of machines one should note several American brands long known in the market of sports equipment: Vectra, Hoist, and Precor. Vectra and Hoist make weight machines; Precor has a wide range of equipment including weight and cardio machines. These companies have gained universal recognition for many years of working in the market; they have own developments and patents.
